Ways to Use Your Oils

I was very excited when my Premium Starter Kit arrived, but I wasn’t sure how to get started with all of the oils.  I started to think about why I ordered the kit in the first place.  I wanted to see if some of the oils could help my active children calm down.  I also wanted to find out if any of them could help me wind down as well, so I started researching which oils in the kit could help me.  My go to oil for my little ones is Young Living’s lavender oil.  I created some calming activities before bedtime such as, lavender scented play dough, lavender scented rice, lavender scented water beads, etc.  You can search to find directions on how to make these sensory play activities HERE.  As for actual bedtime, my older son who used to have the hardest time falling asleep, now falls asleep soundly with the help of his diffuser.  I let him pick which oil he wants in his diffuser each night.  He chooses from lavender, frankincense, or Stress Away.

Thinking of why I wanted to try essential oils to begin with, gave me a good starting point and goal to work towards.  You might want to think of your “why” when trying to get started.  Another good way to get started is by reading THIS starter guide.

Here’s some other ways to use the 11 essential oils in your kit:


  • Diffuse lavender to create a relaxing environment for bedtime
  • Add around 8 drops of lavender to 1 cup of Epsom salts and dissolve them in warm running water for a relaxing bath
  • Add 6-8 drops of lavender to a 2 oz. dark glass spray bottle and fill with distilled water for a room spray or linen spray
  • Add it to shampoo or lotion
  • Place some drops of lavender of your choice oil on the cardboard tube of a toilet paper roll and enjoy a nice scent with each spin of the roll
  • Disinfect sponges by placing a few drops of lavender or lemon on them and putting them on the top rack of a dishwasher
  • Mix together 12 drops of lavender oil and 1 oz. of baking soda, sprinkle on the carpet, let it sit for around 15 min. to deodorize, and vacuum up


  • Diffuse Purification to freshen air and deodorize
  • Add a couple drops of Purification to a damp washcloth and put it in the dryer to add a fresh scent to what’s being dried
  • Add a couple drops of Purification to a cotton ball, and put inside shoes to eliminate odors
  • Add 5 or more drops of Purification to a bowl of water and wipe down fridge/freezer to deodorize
  • Add a few drops of Purification to a cotton ball, and place behind a toilet, at the bottom of a trashcan,  or in a diaper pail


  • Massage some drops of peppermint oil on the abdomen to help alleviate a stomachache
  • For flavor or to help with digestion, add 1 drop of Peppermint Vitality (dietary supplement) to herbal tea
  • Add one drop of peppermint oil directly or diluted to the back of your neck, temples, or forehead to help with headache relief
  •  Mid morning or mid afternoon, inhale or diffuse peppermint oil to help stop your desire to snack
  • Add peppermint oil to some Epsom salts and add to some warm water for a relaxing foot soak
  • Add a drop of Peppermint Vitality (dietary supplement) to any food or beverage recipe


  • Diffuse frankincense to help increase feelings of spirituality or to support a calm environment at bedtime
  • Diffuse during yoga/meditation
  • If feeling nervous, rub frankincense on the bottom of your feet
  • Apply frankincense directly or diluted to the back of your neck to help improve mental health and clarity
  • Dilute frankincense with coconut oil and use daily to help improve skin health (cuts, wrinkles, stretch marks, scars, etc.)
  • Apply a drop of frankincense directly or diluted on warts morning and night (cover with a Band-Aid)


  • Add a drop of Lemon Vitality to water for flavor, to assist with water retention, and to help support appetite suppression
  • Diffuse lemon oil during homework to help with concentration (add some peppermint oil for some extra oomph!)
  • Combine equal amounts of water and vinegar and add around 3 drops of lemon oil for a homemade all-purpose cleaner
  • Make a paste with baking soda and water, add some drops of lemon oil, and use it to scrub surfaces in your kitchen or bathroom
  • Use Lemon Vitality instead of lemon juice or zest to flavor foods and beverages


  • Apply Copaiba directly or diluted to scars, stretch marks, and varicose veins
  • Apply Copaiba directly or diluted to sore muscles
  • Apply Copaiba directly or diluted to a pimple


  • Add a drop of Thieves Vitality to a hot beverage for a little kick of spice (Cinnamon, Clove, Rosemary, Lemon)
  • Mix some drops of Thieves with a carrier oil and apply to chest to help with congestion
  • Apply a couple drops of Thieves directly or diluted to cuts to help fight infection and promote healing
  • Diffuse Thieves to help relieve stress and get rid of airborne germs

  • Diffuse R.C. to alleviate congestion
  • Massage R.C. on chest to help relax muscles
  • R.C. may alleviate snoring when diffused


  • Massage 1-2 drops of DiGize on an upset stomach
  • Add 1-2 drops of DiGize Vitality (dietary supplement) to water or herbal tea to help settle your stomach
  • DiGize has a unique scent, so some people prefer to add DiGize Vitality to vegetable capsules when taking it to help support their stomach


  • Diffuse Panaway to help relieve tension
  • Add a few drops of Panaway to a carrier oil and massage on lower abdomen to help relieve cramps
  • Dilute one drop of Panaway with two drops of a carrier oil and apply to sore muscles
  • Apply some Panaway to 1 cup of Epsom salts and dissolve them in warm running water for a soothing bath, especially after a workout
  • Rub some Panaway with a carrier oil on your feet after a long day of standing or walking

Stress Away

  • Use Stress Away as a perfume
  • Rub a drop or two of Stress Away directly or diluted on your temples when feeling stressed
  • Add 1-2 drops of Stress Away to 1 cup of Epsom salts and dissolve them in warm running water for a calming bath
  • Diffuse Stress Away with peppermint oil to help uplift and unwind
  • Diffuse Stress Away with lavender oil at bedtime
  • Apply a drop of Stress Away directly or diluted to your wrist to help with nerves
  • Add 2 drops of Stress Away to a cotton ball and place near your cars air vents to help ease the stress of a long road trip 

Always test for skin sensitivity before widespread use.  Keep out of your eyes and the inside of your ears.  Use caution when consuming them.  Young Living’s Vitality line of oils are specifically for dietary use.
